Higher Education Veterans Program

The Minnesota Legislature passed a number of initiatives addressing the unique and often complex needs of students who are veterans. To assist Minnesota’s colleges and universities fulfill these new requirements, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs established the Higher Education Veterans Programs. This program consists of a director, an administrative assistant and 12 Regional Coordinators located throughout the state. Specifically, the coordinators work with colleges to enhance or develop:

• Veteran friendly policies and procedures
• On-campus Veterans Resource Centers
• Coordinated campus and community services and information
• Serve as a partner with the military and other community providers with Beyond the Yellow Ribbon reintegration events
• Provide higher education information and support information to veterans, military members and their families

GPS LifePlan

Goals, Plans and Success LifePlan, commonly known as GPS LifePlan, is a holistic program designed to help students plan for their futures. The program focuses on five areas of development: career, education, finance, leadership and personal. In each area, students are encouraged to assess their needs, set goals and create plans to move them in the direction of achieving their goals. The GPS LifePlan provides a framework/structure to help student's approach to goal setting and connects them to resources that can help them achieve those goals.

Minnesota State Colleges and Universities

The 32 Minnesota State Colleges and Universities offer excellent, affordable education in 46 communities across the state. The MnSCU system is the largest single provider of higher education in the state of Minnesota. MnSCU provides veteran- and Servicemember-oriented information, interactive military-to-college tools and access to military-friendly services and help.

National Guard Education

Members of the Minnesota National Guard may qualify for additional education benefits and scholarships funded by the state of Minnesota.
