Grand Rapids Yellow Ribbon Citizen's CommitteeWhen the Grand Rapids Yellow Ribbon Network received word that a disabled veteran needed help moving, they answered the call. The committee had an all day fundraiser scheduled that day, but was still able to gather a group to help the veteran and his family move. They contacted a church in his new neighborhood and the parish secretary connected with the town's football team to help the family with their move.
In August 2011, the committee held a motorcycle fun run where more than 50 bikes from the Patriot Guard, Vietnam veterans, American Legion riders and Shriners came together to support the local network. The American Legion Auxilliary served breakfast and the Yellow Ribbon Committee provided dinner for the fun run participants.
These are just a few of the network's accomplishments, and on Dec. 14, 2011, the committee was proclaimed Yellow Ribbon at a ceremony in Duluth that included Gov. Mark Dayton.
