Operation Mentoring
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nonprofit mentoring organization that serves youth by pairing them with a caring and qualified mentor. "Littles" spend time with their mentor once a week to play games or sports, read, do arts and crafts or just hang out. There is no charge to have your child participate in the program.
Wade and Sue Bastian said this about the impact a Big Brother had on their son during the time of Wade's deployment:
We can't say enough about the Big Brother that our son was matched with in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program during my two-year deployment to Iraq. Our son still talks about how great it was to have someone to do activities and talk with while I was away.

Participation is limited to Central Minnesota. However, there are other Big Brothers Big Sisters programs in Minnesota. The Twin Cities program, for example, has many non-military Big Sisters waiting for little sisters. Additionally, Big Brothers Big Sisters programs are in need of men, especially those in the military, to become Big Brothers for military kids during deployment.
