Sexual Assault
Hurts One. Affects all.President Barrack Obama has proclaimed April 2011 National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. Likewise, the Chief of the National Guard Bureau, General Craig McKinley, and the Minnesota National Guard Adjutant General, Major General Richard Nash, encourage each Guard member to get involved in the prevention of sexual assault.
Sexual assault continues to be the most underreported violent crime in America and the most difficult to prosecute. In one year, 61,000 Minnesotans experience sexual violence which has an $8 billion impact on our economy. The theme "Hurts One. Affects All," is intended to highlight the fact that one sexual assault is too many.
President Obama's Proclamation
The Minnesota National Guard's Sexual Assault Prevention and Response program and its leadership is dedicated to creating a culture within its ranks to end sexual violence - a culture where Servicemembers respect one another and watch eachother's back at both home and abroad.
