After the official end of the war in Iraq, the Chief Staff of the Army, Gen. Raymond Odierno, addressed the surviving family members of those Soldiers who gave their lives serving in Iraq. Odierno said, "As we pause to observe the end of Operation Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the Soldiers, civilians and families who have all contributed to our success in Iraq."
